Tide and Punishment

 I am enjoying the Seaside Cafe series so much I decided to read the next in the series by Bree Baker instead of focusing on some of my to read for February.  This next book focuses on the Christmas season and this time we find a family member in hot water with the police.  It is a delicate balance for detective Grady to make sure he follows rules and doesn't seem as though he is playing favorites because Everly's family is mixed up in this latest murder.   

I enjoyed reading all the thematic details about Christmas traditions in Charm, NC.  Reading this made Christmas feel normal versus how this past holiday season had to be celebrated.  The details are well done and you felt the holiday spirit as you read about the different town traditions.   

The tension between Grady and his mother in law, Senator Denver is very apparent and adds a dimension to the character dynamics already so well done.  This series is doing a wonderful job of continuing to build on the existing relationships and adding in new characters in each book.  We also learn more and more about the characters' pasts as the storyline progresses.  I look forward to reading more of these great mysteries.

Christmas cozy with a great mystery

This next installment in the Seaside Cafe Mysteries has a wonderful holiday spirit associated with it. While the central plot is the murder, there are wonderful subplots about giving and caring for others. It’s a great holiday book that helps remind us of the spirit of giving and small town community all wrapped up in small town community.
This was a wonderful next book in the series but works as a standalone mystery
