Grilled for Murder

 Grilled for Murder is the 2nd book in the Country Store series by Maddie Day.  For some reason I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first book in the series.  Maybe it just felt a little too predictable and like it was following the same pattern as the first one, Robbie finding herself in similar treacherous circumstances.  The characters are interesting and believable. Although I do find it unlikely that a family would speak as disparagingly about a deceased family member as Sue and Glen did, but then it made for a better story line and expanded the possible guilty pool significantly.     

The descriptions of the Country Store and the town of South Lick, IN were well done without losing the readers attention.  The development of relationships with the townspeople and family are interesting and keep the reader wanting to read more, which I plan to do with the next in the series,

This is a good cozy with a strong tamale MC. Robbie is living her dream of running a restaurant but dead bodies keep appearing and ruining her fledgling business. Luckily the support of her Aunt and friends help her pull through and help solve the mystery of the recently returned local girl. Problem is she wasn’t a very nice person in High school or after so there are plenty of possible suspects. The story definitely explores the different options and has a few twists. I didn’t give it more stars only because in some ways the story felt very similar to the first book in the series and I would like to see a bit more variety in the course of the action in the book.
