I read Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt for my book club in Jan. I must say how refreshing it was to read a more hopeful novel after reading so many sad Oprah BC like books last year. Marcellus is an amazing character and it is such a unique story. The backstory of the author's impetus for writing her debut work is a story in and of itself, it was a college writing assignment to write a story from a unique perspective. That assignment is the first chapter in this book. I highly recommend this book if you like character-rich novels especially if you enjoy reading about people you don't always like. This is a poignant book at times but overall it is very uplifting.
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van PeltMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a very creative story with such an unusual narrator. I found the characters both endearing and annoying at different points in the story. The growth we witness in Cameron and the progression with moving forward Tova experiences makes for a great read. I am not usually a big character driven story person but I must say this book lived up to all the hype it has been getting on SM.
