HP NEWTS

This year's HP themed challenge is based on the NEWTS.  It is hosted on FB on the HPOOTP  Flourish and Blotts site.

Here is their official announcement.

It's time to officially unveil our 2024 reading challenge-the Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (N.E.W.T.s)

In honor of our seventh year of the HPOOTP-Flourish & Blotts reading challenge, it’s time to take on your Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (N.E.W.T.s)! In this year’s challenge, you’ll attempt to earn your N.E.W.T.s in all of your favorite subjects!

If you're not familiar with the Harry Potter universe, the N.E.W.T.s are the end of year tests that seventh year Hogwarts students take before they graduate. They're supposed to be harder than the Ordinary Wizarding Level exams students take in their Fifth year. If you've been with us for a bit, you'll know that our 2022 reading challenge was based on the O.W.L.s!

(Please note, you do NOT need to have completed the O.W.L.s reading challenge to participate!)

2024 HPOOTP-Flourish & Blotts Reading Challenge

The Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (N.E.W.T.s) Reading Challenge

Each of the 12 classes have 5 prompts. Because the N.E.W.T.s are supposed to be harder than the O.W.L.s, we've added an action prompt to each subject in addition to the 5 reading prompts. This action can be completed while reading any book you use for a prompt in that subject. For example, if you're using the first Harry Potter book to complete a prompt in Astronomy, you can complete the action prompt (read under the stars) by reading the first Harry Potter book at night. As always with our challenges, you can set your own qualifications, but our rule of thumb is 2 chapters or 30 mins of an audiobook would complete the spirit of the action prompt. While it was our intention not to add an additional number of books to the challenge this year, if you'd like to make the challenge even harder, you can use additional books to meet these actions.

You can decide which grades to go for in which classes and which classes you want to attempt a N.E.W.T. in (receive a passing grade). Thus, you can build the challenge to the number of books you want to read! For example, you can choose to do only 1 subject and go for an O grade (5 books plus an action), or you could attempt to earn 3 passing grades in 3 subjects (12 books), or you can choose to go for all 12 subjects & all prompts (60 books + 12 action prompts) – or anywhere in between!

N.E.W.T. Grades are as follows:

Failing Grades:

Troll (T) : Finish 1 prompt in a subject

Dreadful (D): Finish 2 prompts in a subject

Poor (P): Finish 3 prompts in a subject

*Passing Grades: *

Acceptable (A): Finish 4 prompts in a subject

Exceeds Expectations (E): Finish 5 prompts in a subject

Outstanding (O): Finish 5 prompts in a subject & complete the action prompt.

I will aim for Acceptable with hopes of overachieving and finishing more.  Sharing books on the FB page
