A well written mystery that sheds some light on the back story of Liz, the MC. There were plenty of suspects to be found when a very unlikeable male is found dead on New Year’s Day. I appreciated the teamwork of Liz and her friends and family. There were no horror movie moments where Liz took unnecessary risks when trying to identify the killer to clear her name. I also enjoy the descriptions of the coastal locale and find the stories to provide a bit of a getaway while enjoying them.

Review: Murder in a Cape Cottage

Murder in a Cape Cottage by Maddie Day
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Another good entry in the series. The setting on the Cape makes it unique. This book revolves around an old case and Mac’s upcoming nuptials. The story involves plenty of town history and requires a family tree to sort out all the different founding families and their lineage and relationships
The mystery is quite well developed and Mac’s innate curiosity drives the story forward. The connections to modern time is well structured and makes sense. An enjoyable book

Review: Crime and Cherry Pits

Crime and Cherry Pits by Amanda Flower

Another good book in this series. They are well written mysteries with personal story development on the side. This time we have Shiloh working at the Traverse City Cherry Festival. This setting allows lots of additional characters to be mixed into the plot without seeming out of place. The story weaves a good mystery with several potential criminal’s identified The ending is well done with a sense of closure and explanation. The epilogue seers up the next installment quite well but I hope we do get some explanations about what elapsed in the 6 weeks not just the outcomes

creepy criminals make for a thrilling read

This book was more gruesome and more of a psychological thriller than some of the previous murder club books. This one definitely reminded me of a criminal minds episode and made me want to sleep. With lights on.

Review: A Design to Die for

A Design to Die for by Kathleen Bridge

A surprise ending wraps up a cover cozy mystery. I listen to the audiobooks for this series and enjoy visualizing the Hamptons and surrounding towns. The giant estates in the descriptions line up with scenes from Real Housewives and other tv shows. The characters in this installment certainly check some stereotypes but they make the mystery that much more difficult to solve because there are so many potential suspects

I look forward to reading about the personal relationships and their development in the future books

Review: Happy Place

Happy Place by Emily Henry

This book felt like a combination romance and self discovery especially for the MC, Harriet. It is definitely a story about one door closing and others opening. I found myself rooting for the happy ending while realizing the journey was as important if not more important than the outcome. This is a great book for those longing for their glory days and reflecting on their youth. It felt like a modern version of the 80s movie the Big Chill.
